Equipment

3 CRO Landrovers

The teams equipment is all funded by voluntary donations, replacing our vehicles alone when they reach ten years old costs £9,000 a year at today’s prices. ALL CRO’s equipment is essential to enable the team to conduct the rescues it does  and remain on call 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.

CRO would like to acknowledge the recent gift (January 2008) of 43 chemical light sticks by Trans Pennine Railways. These will be attached to buoyancy aids and helmets on nightime river bank searches to aid personnel identification.

One major cost is always the annual replacement of our caving ropes. We do this to ensure that the ropes are in optimum condition and have maximum strength. This year Lyon Equipment has come to our aid by supplying us with not one years but two years replacement ropes.

This is a major contribution and we are very grateful to them for their generous help. The money that the teams saves by not having to find funds to replace these ropes will help us in many other ways. Our thanks go in particular to Ben Lyon for organising this.

CRO are currently trialing a SatMap GPS system. The handheld ruggedised unit displays OS mapping and will be extremely beneficial for example in assisting the team locate obscure cave entrances at times of bad weather or at night. Trials are ongoing but the team is grateful to SatMap for the supply of the equipment.
