2008 summarised
Submitted by cromedia on Sun, 04/01/2009 - 17:20.
Despite two prolonged spells (five weeks in August / September and seven weeks in November / December) with no incidents, at all, during 2008, CRO members were called out 50 times, during the year. They went to the aid of 81* cavers, 30 walkers, 3 climbers, 1 person ‘missing from home’, 1 motorist (car carried away by river), 1 show cave visitor, 5 sheep or lambs and 3 dogs. There was one ‘other’ investigation, which turned out to be a ‘false alarm with good intent’. This figure is dominated (or distorted, as you will) by the 44 people to whose aid CRO was called on 4 October. One or both of the CRO team members handling dogs trained through SARDA (England) – the Search and Rescue Dog Association – were called to other teams’ areas on 21 occasions during the year, searching for 16 people missing from home (or otherwise vulnerable) and 6 walkers. There were two ‘other’ investigations. |
CRO was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in 2010, on our 75th anniversary, for providing cave and mountain rescue services in the local community. This award is the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations What's going onUser login |
